Third mission and territory

Through its teaching and scientific vocation, the Department of Architecture, Design and Urban Planning engages in a profound dialogue with the community, the territory and the world of professions. This action reverberates in a multitude of studies and research to support design and planning at various scales, as well as projects in the fields of design, social communication, and environmental analysis and monitoring. Great attention is paid to ethical and social issues, from integration to the involvement of primary and secondary schools. Through various initiatives and opportunities, each year modulated on the basis of needs, DADU also opens up to foreign students and working students. The Department's third mission actions focus on three main lines:

  • Promoting targeted actions in the field of research in architecture, planning and the environment, starting from a bottom-up approach in order to enhance local knowledge to expand global knowledge;
  • Developing third mission activities, research, conventions with public administrations in order to promote a new vision of the territory and enhance the environmental resources present;
  • Promoting local knowledge as a development engine for socio-economic activities at regional and national level.

These initiatives are carried out through: knowledge transfer activities towards public administrations and the various stakeholders in the area and more generally towards the public, carried out by all the lecturers and staff of the Department.
