Research activities

Established almost twenty years ago with the aim of exploring the expanded dimension of the animated image as a communication language, the laboratory has over the years re-articulated its activities around the more general topic of communication design, embracing corporate design; exhibit design and the design of the moving image; interactive systems; the exploration of languages, approaches and technologies to make complex information more accessible; playful design, design for cultural heritage, scientific dissemination and for social communication.

The research unit boasts a wide range of skills: communication design and its positioning and use in social networks, the conception, creation and distribution of audiovisual products of a promotional, informative and documentary nature, with particular emphasis on animated and video-graphic artefacts, the conception and creation of multimedia installations in exhibits, the integration between the real and virtual dimension in communication design, gamification techniques.

The research unit, strictly tied with DADU’s degree course in Design, also carries out an intense activity of cultural dissemination, for example with the organization of the DesignDuo seminars and by leading the ambitious international platform 2CO COmmunicatng COmplexity.

The Animazionedesign laboratory has to its credit a constant scientific production(publications, papers, articles, communications at international conferences and seminars).

Various projects and initiatives carried out  in the laboratory have received important recognition, such as inclusion in five separate editions of the ADI Index Design.

Equipment and software

The laboratory has its own equipment and instruments for the production of professional audiovisual and animated products. The instrumental equipment includes cinematographic equipment (lighting equipment, stands and accessories for sets, photographic shooting sets and audio shooting equipment), professional video post-production stations, professional data management and backup systems.
