LAMP is an inter-university Laboratory with formalised international links. It is a research centre of excellence. Its main objective are to develop research and projects based on the application and the development of models for planning, a range of different models but with a particular philosophy.

The members of the Laboratory are the Universities of Sassari, Trieste, Cosenza, Gorizia, the University IUAV in Venice, the Polytechnic University of Bari and the Polytechnic University of Milan, with different Departments of Architecture, Planning, Geomatics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Sociology.

As far as international relations are concerned, the Laboratory has solid relationship and collaboration with a range of international universities, research laboratories and institutes among which the Centre for Advanced Spatial Analysis (CASA) in London (UK), the School of Anthropology, Geography and Environmental Studies (SAGES) at the University of Melbourne (Australia), the Santa Fè Institute (USA), the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Moscow (Russia), the Faculty of Architecture of San Paolo (Brasil), the CIDEC (Centro de Investigación y Documentación sobre problemas de Economía, el Empleo y las Cualificaciones Profesionales)) in San Sebastian (Spain), The European Studies Faculty at the Jagellonian University in Cracow (Poland), and many others.

The main objectives of the Laboratory is to carry out research and projects based on the application and the development of models for planning, a range of different models but all with a particular philosophy. The philosophy based on the usability, user-friendliness, modularity and integration, with the awareness of a substantial uselessness of purely predictive and prescriptive models and of an utter importance and need for explorative, heuristic and simulation models; with a pragmatic approach, but theoretically grounded and not “light”.

With regard to its “products”, the Laboratory’s mission is to design and to develop sophisticated operative tools capable of coping with the problems related to the complexity, but still user-friendly, inexpensive and easy to implement and modify.

Tools useful for the analysis and simulation of territorial and environmental dynamics, decision support, activation and support fot the participatory processes.
