Short CV

Gian Felice Giaccu (1972) is a researcher at the Department of Architecture, Design and Planning of the University of Sassari Alghero where he teaches "Design Of Big Structures" in the Degree of Architecture and Design. After graduating with honors in Structural Engineering from the University of Cagliari, he has partnered with the company Sting Engineering as structural consultant for the design of various construction projects of Big Structures and their construction management.

His training has been developed in the field of Wind Engineering and Dynamics of structures collaborating with the Research Group of Wind Engineering as a Visiting Research Assistant at the "Northeastern University" Boston, Ma, USA, where he has completed doctoral studies in 2010 earning his Ph.D. in Structural Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering of Cagliari.

Winner of two-year research grant entitled "The wind actions on Big structures" has carried out research at "Northeastern University" where he attained the position of "Research Associate" under the project "Theoretical Study of the Vibration of Inclined Stays in Cable Stayed Bridges. "
In 2013 he held the position of "Honorary Fellow" at University of Liverpool Faculty of Science and Engineering, where he carried out research in collaboration with the Group of Applied Mathematics in the field of wave propagation in the structures.

Rapporteur and co-rapporteur of numerous dissertations related to Big Structures since 2002 has worked in teaching and research activities in the course of Theory and Design of Bridges and Structural Design of the Faculty of Engineering of Cagliari.

From 2014 he is Assistant Professor ICAR/09 of Structural Design at the Department of Architecture, Design and Urbanism of the University of Sassari.

The research activity is inherent to structural dynamics, Cable Dynamics, Wind Engineering and the study of issues related to bridges and Big Structures.

His works have been published and presented at conferences and journals both national and international. Among his publications are cited the following articles: “Effects of modeling nonlinearity in cross-ties on the dynamics of simplified in-plane cable networks”. Structural Control and Health Monitoring (2010),”Asymptotics of eigenfrequencies in the dynamic response of elongated multi-structures” Proceedings of The Royal Society A (2011),” Generalized power-law stiffness model for nonlinear dynamics of in-plane cable networks” Journal of Sound and Vibration, (2013), “Modeling “Unilateral” Response in the Cross Ties of a Cable Network: Deterministic Vibration”, Journal of Sound and Vibration (2014).
