LaMo | Physical and Virtual Modelling Laboratory Research activities The Physical and Virtual Modelling Laboratory (LaMo) is a center of excellence dedicated to scientific research and technological innovation, actively exploring new methodologies for representing, communicating, and simulating complex realities. The laboratory combines traditional techniques and advanced digital tools to create an open and interdisciplinary environment for experimentation.LaMo's research activities focus on developing integrated approaches that combine physical modelling and virtual modelling, offering tools for analyzing, verifying, and communicating complex solutions across heterogeneous fields. The creation of scale physical models is a fundamental activity in the laboratory, as these models enable the visualization and study of processes and dynamics, supporting the critical analysis and optimization of systems and structures. At the same time, virtual and multimedia modelling uses digital technologies, advanced rendering software, and augmented and virtual reality tools to simulate complex scenarios. These activities enable the exploration of design, communication, and experimental possibilities that extend beyond the limitations of traditional methods, facilitating the understanding and dissemination of research results. One area of strong innovation is the experimentation with metamaterials, engineered materials that exhibit properties not found in natural materials. LaMo's research focuses on the application of metamaterials and the possibility of developing devices and structures with advanced functionalities, opening new horizons for technology and industry.LaMo is, therefore, a multidisciplinary experimentation center where scholars and researchers collaborate to address contemporary challenges, promoting the integration of knowledge and technologies to generate innovative solutions that respond to the needs of society and the manufacturing world. Equipment and software The Physical and Virtual Modelling Laboratory (LaMo) offers a comprehensive range of equipment and software to support research and experimentation activities. The equipment includes terrestrial and aerial 3D laser scanners, surveying and geolocation systems, drones for photogrammetric surveying, portable scanning devices, and advanced measuring instruments. The laboratory also uses professional software for processing acquired data, recording scans, creating and managing three-dimensional models, processing point clouds, and cloud platforms for data storage and sharing. These technologies enable high-precision simulation, analysis, and visualization activities, integrating physical and virtual modelling in a multidisciplinary and innovative work environment.
