Joint Research Unit LifeWatch-Italy The University of Sassari, with researchers from the Ecology group, has been a member of the LifeWatch-Italy Joint Research Unit since its inception, with the aim of supporting the creation and development of the European research infrastructure LifeWatch-ERIC. This infrastructure is dedicated to the study of biodiversity through the creation of a network of observers, institutions, and biodiversity research groups. It is aimed at developing innovative tools for the generation and processing of biodiversity data (e-biodiversity), ensuring their integration, interoperability, and accessibility. Concrete examples of their involvement include participation in the LifeWatch Show-Case “Patterns of ecosystem fragility to alien and invasive species (in Europe)”: A model of the LifeWatch Virtual Research Projects, and the study case in LifeWatch Italy VREs & MoBiLab with the Project “Connecting phytoplankton morpho-functional traits with physiological characteristics: A modelling approach” (MorFun). Furthermore, the university has contributed to the PON infrastructural strengthening project, LifeWatchPLUS, by making available ecological data series collected in various lake environments in Sardinia.
