Interdisciplinarity of graphic and visual sciences

The GRA.VIS research laboratory conducts research aimed at investigating the emerging fields of contemporary societal issues. Some of the emerging research topics, precisely because they are new and come from society, often lie on the borderline between the traditional disciplines. The problematic nature of these themes originates precisely from the difficulty of placing them in established fields of knowledge, which thus end up occupying interstices that are more difficult to recognise and investigate. These grey and interstitial areas are the research fields in which an interdisciplinary approach becomes necessary, which for this reason requires greater effort and energy, as it implies the confrontation with multiple knowledge, disciplinary traditions, languages and sensitivities.

highlighting in particular, also through scientific publications, the role of drawing, images and visualisations within interdisciplinary research pathways as well as the potential of applying methods, techniques and tools - including technological tools - belonging to the graphic and visual sciences in other disciplinary fields.
