Students with disabilities or SLDs Support and services The University of Sassari provides assistance and services to students with disabilities or specific learning disorders (SLD).For years, the University of Sassari has been paying close attention to students with disabilities, documented or suspected, specific learning disorders (dyslexia, dysorthographia and dyscalculia), generally abbreviated to SLD. Even as adults, it can be difficult to read, to fully understand the content of a page you have just read, or to remember it easily. Sometimes, these issues are indicative of one or more unrecognised SLDs. In addition to negatively affecting academic performance, SLDs can have negative implications for self-esteem and, therefore, emotional and social functioning. To support both students and their families, the University of Sassari has set up a Commission for the issues of students with disabilities or SLDs. The Commission, composed of a representative from each department of the University, works both to facilitate students' academic paths (from enrolment to completion of their studies) and to promote specific awareness-raising initiatives and train its teaching staff to provide better assistance during the course of study. The Department of Architecture, Design and Urban Planning, based in Alghero, is equipped with aids (both fixed and mobile) to help overcome architectural barriers and ensure accessibility to study areas (classrooms and library). Guidelines for students and teachers For further information, please refer to the section Students with disabilities and SLDs on the University website. Contact person for students with disabilities The contact person for the Department of Architecture, Design and Urban Planning is Prof. Antonello Monsù Scolaro. The contact person works to ensure the proper integration of students with SLDs and disabilities into classes, informing teachers of individual courses so that (particularly in the case of SLDs) they can facilitate the learning process with specific teaching methods and exam support (which are also required by specific laws). The contact person can be reached by email or telephone at the following addresses:prof.
