Danish spit systems, large sand bodies extending from the coast, serve as natural archives for reconstructing past variations in climate, sea level, and storminess. Research on the Skagen Odde spit system in northern Denmark (one of Europe's largest) and other localities has provided high-resolution records spanning the last 7,000-8,000 years.

Lars Bjørn Clemmensen is Professor Emeritus of Sedimentology at the Department of Geosciences and Natural Resource Management, University of Copenhagen. Born in Copenhagen, he has dedicated his career to understanding Earth's sedimentary records, with a particular focus on coastal systems, aeolian dunes, and the climate history of the North Atlantic region.
